The download finished, but the video isn't in your gallery? That's normal: browsers save files to a downloads folder, not to your photos. Here's where to find it and how to move it.
iPhone and iPad
- Safari saves to the Files app, in On My iPhone → Downloads (or iCloud Drive → Downloads). Open Files, tap Recents, and the video is at the top.
- Chrome on iPhone asks what to do with the file: choose Save to Files, or Open in… and then Save Video.
- To put it in Photos: open the video in Files, tap Share and choose Save Video.
If nothing happens when you tap a quality, you are probably inside another app's browser (Telegram, X, Reddit). Tap Open in Safari first. Full iPhone guide.
Android
- Chrome, Samsung Internet, Opera and Firefox save to the Download folder. Open the Files app (My Files on Samsung) and tap Downloads.
- Most gallery apps show videos from the Download folder by themselves. If yours doesn't, open the video in Files, tap ⋮, choose Move to and pick the Movies folder.
- Chrome also keeps a list: tap ⋮ → Downloads.
Windows and Mac
Downloads go to the Downloads folder. Press Ctrl + J in most browsers (⌥ + ⌘ + L in Safari) to see the list. Full computer guide.
Keeping them out of your main gallery
If you'd rather they didn't sit among your photos, keep them somewhere locked: the Hidden album on iPhone, Secure Folder on Samsung, or Safe folder in Google's Files app. How to keep downloaded videos private.
If the video won't play
- Still downloading? A half-finished file won't open. Check the download list first.
- A very big file? 4K videos can be several gigabytes, and older phones may not play them smoothly. Download 1080p or 720p instead.
